Yet another uniquely-Athens experience, at the end of each summer, Court Street is closed to vehicle traffic and the longest table you’ve ever seen is set up right down the middle of it, where people are served a gourmet meal in the center of uptown, European-style. But in true Appalachian-style, this fancy dinner isn’t about consumption; it’s about community.
Sponsored by the OhioHealth system, Bounty on the Bricks is a private, gourmet, several-course situation that celebrates local Athens farmers and fresh produce. Every plate purchased goes to support the Southeast Ohio Foodbank and its member food pantries throughout the region.
About the SE Ohio Foodbank
An organization wholly based in humanity and compassion, the Southeast Ohio Foodbank fights food insecurity in our region on a massive level. Last year alone they served almost 50000 people with 4.4 million meals. The SE Ohio Foodbank offers emergency food assistance, resource navigation and advocates for policy changes in an endeavor to improve quality of life for thousands upon thousands of people in our region.
Food insecurity is a national scourge, but in Southeast Ohio, hunger rates are 1 in 6 – 50% higher than the national average. The Foodbank is fighting that so people can thrive instead of just trying to survive, and the funds raised at Bounty on the Bricks is an important part of that.Bounty on the Bricks is 5 August from 630-10pm. Seating is limited, so get your tickets ahead of time!
