So you’re looking for 3 bedrooms to rent near uptown Athens and OU. Whether you’re a master’s student with a partner and a couple dogs, or a sophomore and two best friends starting your first year out of the dorms, there are a few things you should think about when choosing a 3-bedroom unit to rent. There’s the usual, of course – budget constraints, lease dates (May-May vs August-August), lease lengths, and location.
But there’s also the type of rental to consider. Do you want a house with 3 bedrooms? A 3-bedroom unit in a house that’s been split into several apartments? Or maybe a three bedroom apartment in a building with shared balconies that overlook uptown Athens? There are a bunch of options; it just depends on what’s right for you.
Should You Choose a 3-Bedroom House or Apartment?
Okay, so – how do you go about making a decision between renting a three bedroom house or a three bedroom apartment?
Introverts and people who like to go to sleep early will likely want a 3 bedroom house in Athens instead of an apartment. You don’t have to see or talk to anyone else when you come and go from your house, and you don’t have to share outdoor space if your rental has a yard. Likewise, there’s no sharing walls with noisy people in the next unit over.
At the same time, people who are very social might also want a three bedroom house instead of an apartment, too. Although it depends on what kind of social you are. If you like to host people and have planned parties, a rental home is the way to go. If you’re a spur-of-the-moment, love-to-meet-new-people person, renting an apartment in a multi-unit house or building would be best for you.
Another thing to think about is how long you’ll be staying in Athens; some of us are passing through, and some of us are here for way more than 4 years, whether we’re going for PhD’s, or just never leave because it’s such a great place to be.
In this case, if you’re here for a few years, a 3 bedroom house might be a way to feel like life here is a little more permanent. Whereas if you’re only here for a couple years, it’s sometimes fun to rent apartments for a year and move around. Different areas of town have different vibes, though we all know the place to be is in a rental near uptown and campus. After all, it’s the heart of Athens; where else would you want to be?
