One of the best things about OU is how much culture and diversity the university manages to attract. It’s a pretty worldly little corner of Ohio we’ve created here! One unique and little-known arts and culture event that’s a fairly new winter tradition at OU is Trombone Day! Yup; you read that right. Turns out trombones are a lot cooler than they seemed when you were the awkward kid at the back of high school band class.
The whole event revolves around the world-renowned trombone soloist, Yu Tamaki Hoso, who generously returns to each year to sprinkle just a bit of his talent on students and locals alike. Literally anyone can attend – even high school kids. He’ll teach a large group warmup, several large group classes, and another several small master classes. The day culminates in a trombone choir performance and an exclusive solo performance for attendees.
Yu Tamaki Hoso is a worldwide trombone performer, educator, producer, publisher, and an overall active entrepreneur and avid musician. He’s been a principal trombonist in 3 renowned US and Japanese symphonies, and was a solo trombonist in the South Denmark Philharmonic. His enthusiasm for playing the trombone is only equaled by his passion for educating other brass instrument enthusiasts.
Register for Ohio University Trombone Day 2023: January 29th at Glidden Hall from 10am-5pm.
