What’s happening in Athens this summer? A bunch of stuff. April might be festival season for OU, but Athens’ festival season is all summer long – even into the fall, if you count PawPaw Fest (September 15th-17th – Don’t miss it.).

Inclusivity, equality, representation, and respect for all humans is a field of social causes near and dear to our hearts in Athens and at OU. And the powerhouse player in that endeavor to be a place where everyone feels safe and a part of something is our local LGBTQ+ community.

Summertime in Athens is a fun vibe. Many of the students are gone, and many of the permanent residents – who look forward to these quieter seasons – retake Court Street and host different events that are special to Athens.

Southeast Ohio is a gorgeous place – wildflowers, wildlife, forests, amazing geological sites like Hocking Hills – nothing’s quite like the foothills of Appalachia. But all that nature comes with a bunch of pollen, which makes allergy season an entire situation.

It doesn’t need to be said that college students spend a big chunk of their time at OU studying. And one of the great things about campus and adjacent Court Street is that there are great study spots to be found all over.

Every spring, students look forward to the start of fest season in April. Palmer, Mill, High, Congo – every weekend there’s a reason to celebrate the fact that the semester’s almost over.

It’s winter; cabin fever is real. Especially after what happened over Christmas – that was wild.

Living in Athens but haven’t been to Casa yet? That “Shame” scene from GOT comes to mind. Casa Nueva is kind of an uptown hub for Athens – both OU students and permanent residents.

OU’s International Week is one of the most vibrant weeks on campus green and uptown Athens – not just because of all the cool things to experience, but visually as well. Colorful clothes, wares, music, flags and foods of the different cultures represented in OU’s student body.

One of the best things about OU is how much culture and diversity the university manages to attract. It’s a pretty worldly little corner of Ohio we’ve created here!
