Athens Events

If you’ve lived in Athens for a single October, you know well the buzz around the annual Halloween party uptown. It draws crowds of 10000+ people yearly – up to 30000 in past years!

Athens is well-known as one of the few safe havens in Ohio for the queer community. Maybe it wasn’t always that way, but the city has sure made an effort to move forward into alliance and protection for our marginalized neighbors for decades.

When we think of cryptids, the more famous are often evoked – Bigfoot, the chupacabra, wendigos. But several rural corners around the US have their own regional folklore about some more… unique supernatural creatures. Ever heard of Eastern Ohio’s Grassman? Us neither.

The contribution of our African-American community to the history and fabric of Athens cannot be understated. And National Black Business Month is the perfect time to get acquainted with some of our local entrepreneurs.

Looking for a fun summer activity that highlights the community, culture and talent of our little corner of Ohio? Head down to Union Street this August 3rd for one of Athens’ free pop-up festivals!

Brew week is a town-wide tradition in Athens – we’re the OG Brew Week – don’t let the copycats fool you. Head uptown to find great food, craft beers, fun times and friends.

Local business, local art, local pride – Boogie on the Bricks is a yearly summer kick-off in the Athens community. An event unique to our little nook in Southeast Ohio, Boogie is basically a pop-up music festival – it’s exactly 10 hours long.

Seeing your kid graduate from college is an exciting moment. However, the logistics of going to graduation aren’t so exciting – the crowds, the traffic, the unfamiliar place. But with a bit of planning and some inside information, you can take a lot of the stress of graduation weekend off.

The Indigo Girls are coming to Athens this March 21st for a concert featuring the OHIO symphony orchestra, set to play at 730pm at Templeton-Blackburn Memorial Auditorium.
